The construction industry, like many others, has gone through great growth in recent years. We have increased self -awareness as a means of hosting a group of people more diverse in a field that provides enormous opportunities. As an industry that adopted carbon reduction and prioritizing employees’ health long before it became a general current, we are more progressive than we get.

But with all the advances, there is also the possibility of reflecting on what is coming. As an executive of the women’s project, I have identified and persecuted the opportunities I presented to grow and achieve key milestones in my professional development. However, I can also look back and acknowledge that there were some obstacles along the way, and they may not be the “usual suspects” in relation to some of the routes that I have had to navigate to go where I am now.

What do I think we need to focus on the following? I have talked a lot in my podcast, behind the facade, about the creation of your personal brand and what that means. As you present to others it should be a direct reflection on how you see. Be kind. Be strong. Grab space.

In the same vein as the personal brand, I think there must also be another conversation around the tutoring. The idea of “mentoring” means different things for different people. In my opinion, it should be an organic relationship that does not occur only with one or two people.

Recently in my podcast, we talked about setting up your personal board of directors. Women should find leaders who can help and guide them through different aspects of their career, from business development to innovation at the workplace. And when we talk about mentoring, it should be done through a slowness of how our companies bring to the next level and not only when our next promotion will take place.

A complete approach to development

When it comes to helping women to achieve their full potential in A/E/C space, I see some different opportunities that could represent the next evolution of professional growth.

Pridely bring your construction hat. I often tell female colleagues that they should be confident in sharing details about their work in personal spaces. Football games, neighborhood meetings, professional events: You never know who has a project in channeling or is put into practice with a challenge of work. Note, it is not a matter of making a perspective or appeared hungry; Rather, it is that your classmates are to know what you do, so maybe someday you can help solve a problem.

He collaborates with the female companions. One of the aspects of corporate life that has not changed much despite the advances we have made culturally in recent years is competition. I still see too many young and professional women seeking guidance and support of women’s leaders who are reduced due to the wrong perception competing for the team’s places. My first days in the industry were marked by limited mentoring opportunities and colleagues who did not see the value of collaboration. There are still many advances here, so if you are a female leader, he was driving! And help fresh faces benefit from the value of your years.

Continue to look for opportunities, but not just to move forward. When we talk about being open to opportunities, re-frame this conversation for training programs, network channels, Council positions and yes, being a mentor, they are much more important for the development of a career. I inevitably also take care of my classmates, male and female. Advance cannot be just what is there for you right now But more focused on how to help your organization pay the dividends over the coming years. You believe it or not, the opportunities for advance will be presented, but it is organically more rewarding.

The need to evolve

For those who enjoy being part of an industry that thrives to push the envelope, there is a lot to celebrate. Working for a company that is proud to create leadership opportunities from the inside to fill the bucket daily when witnessing first -hand progress. Now, I hope to see the women cross the following Rubicon and to ensure -to continue to lift others and bring more capable people to the field.

If you already have a seat on the table, it would be a missed opportunity not to fill some more chairs with the next generation of female leaders.
