A Scottish council has appointed Balfour Beatty for a road improvement project worth up to £40m.
Falkirk Council councilors agreed to appoint the UK’s largest contractor for its Westfield A9/A904 improvement scheme.
The work will include widening carriageways, building major junctions and implementing road changes, and will start over the summer, the council said.
A 28-month construction contract is due to be signed next month. According to a council report, the estimated value of the contract is “up to £40m”, but this will be confirmed before the deal closes.
Balfour had already worked on the pre-construction phase of the project.
Cllr Cecil Meiklejohn, leader of Falkirk Council, said: “By agreeing to appoint Balfour Beatty, we will ensure a seamless transition from early discussions with the company to the construction phase.
“This continuity will allow us to capitalize on Balfour Beatty’s extensive experience in delivering major road infrastructure projects.”
The project previously secured £14 million from the UK government’s Leveling Up Fund.
The news follows a string of major contract wins for Balfour in Scotland this year, including two NHS projects worth £160 million and a £90m Fife College campus programme.
