Only two companies remain to sign up to Gove’s fire safety contract

Dandara has become the 49th developer to agree to sign the government’s fire safety contract.

This means that just two companies – Abbey Developments and Rydon Homes, the sister company of Grenfell contractor Rydon Maintenance – remain reluctant to sign in the face of mounting pressure.

Housebuilder Dandara is the latest to accept a contract published by the Department for Leveling, Housing and Communities in January committing companies to correct fire safety defects in the buildings they developed.

By the March 13 deadline, 11 firms continued to resist the pledge, despite warnings from Housing Secretary Michael Gove that those who did not sign up would be barred from new homebuilding projects or receiving the approval of building control for works already in progress.

Companies that agree to sign up will be added to a new Responsible Actor Scheme, which will guide recruitment bodies and other groups on which companies can be hired to work in England.

The contract builds on commitments made in the developer’s non-binding commitment to address life-critical fire safety issues in buildings of at least 11 meters in height developed or refurbished in England over the past 30 years.

Dandara said that after signing the letter of commitment earlier this year, he had now also accepted the repair contract from the developer.

“Dandara has appointed a number of partners to carry out the initial surveys, which will be used to inform the repair works and support the creation of a repair timetable that can be completed with minimal disruption to residents.” say a spokesman

“During the remediation process, Dandara will continue to work closely with the Department of Levelling, Housing and Communities, freeholders, tenants, contractors, consultants and management companies to ensure that all work is delivered to a high standard and agreement with the developer’s repair contract.”
