The City of Alexandria, Virginia has reached a milestone in its efforts to electrify its DASH bus fleet with the installation of an in-route pantograph charger and associated infrastructure.
The system allows DASH buses to be charged while in service, thereby expanding route flexibility, extending operating range and reducing downtime. The project, led by energy infrastructure provider ABM, also included the installation of electrical cabinets, electrical infrastructure and civil foundation works.
DASH, which serves more than 5.3 million users annually, has also rolled out facility upgrades to support increased electrical capacity.
