Galliford Try topped June’s contractors’ league table for the first time in more than four years, thanks to a road improvement scheme in Gloucestershire.
The company landed the M5 Junction 10 scheme, which involves the construction of two new roads as well as a new link road connecting the A4019 with the B4634 west of Cheltenham and widening the A4019 Tewkesbury Road, for Gloucestershire County Council.
Construction intelligence provider Glenigan credits the contract as worth £254m to the contractor. It was one of 10 to land during the month, giving it a total of £311 million in jobs.
Galliford Try last topped the league table in April 2019, five months before it agreed to sell its housebuilding and association businesses to Bovis Homes.
Multiplex had the second biggest haul in June thanks to two major contracts: the £220m phase 2 at the former BBC Television Center in west London and the £52.5m refurbishment sterling from the Minerva House office building in Southwark, south London.
The former broadcasting studios are set to become a residential site, with Multiplex signed up to deliver 345 luxury apartments across two blocks.
Morgan Sindall finished third in the table, winning a total of 35 different contracts with a combined value of £213m.
Greek company Mytilineos was a new entrant in fifth place, due to its £120m contract to deliver a gas-fired power station to VPI Immingham OCGT in Lincolnshire.

A total of 505 contracts worth a combined £7.5 billion were awarded in the second quarter of 2023, according to Glenigan. This was a fall of more than £2.4bn on the same period in 2022, when 529 contracts were awarded with a total value of £9.9bn.
Last month, analysts at the intelligence provider predicted an 18% fall in the value of new development during 2023, led by a collapse in private housing starts on the back of rising mortgage rates and the reduction of family budgets.
Kier remained top of the annual league table, generating £2.57bn of work from 150 contracts. Morgan Sindall returned to second place with £2.04 billion from 348 jobs, while Balfour Beatty rose to third place with £2.03 billion, ahead of Wates, which gained £1.77 billion of work over the period .
Galliford Try’s strong month helped it rise from ninth to seventh in the annual list.
