Zachry Construction, a San Antonio-based infrastructure builder, is taking advantage of the momentum in the water sector.

The contractor broke ground at the Central Regional Wastewater System’s chlorine and sulfur dioxide containment building in Dallas, according to an announcement from the builder. The Trinity River Authority, which owns the project, authorized a contract with Zachry for approximately $108 millionaccording to the minutes of the December 5 meeting of the TRA.

Zachry, as the prime contractor, aims to modernize critical wastewater infrastructure and improve containment, service and system improvements at the facility, according to the release.

According to the announcement, the contractor will deliver a new chlorine and sulfur dioxide containment building, an additional chlorine storage building, pump stations and related site-wide improvements. It will also carry out civil works, grading, paving, storm water drainage, roads, a variety of pipe work and deliver electrical and instrumentation systems.

“This project will help strengthen critical treatment infrastructure for the Trinity River Authority, and reflects the type of complex water and civil work our teams are equipped to deliver with a strong focus on safety, coordination and lasting quality,” Tyler Farella, vice president of Zachry Construction, said in the press release.

Across the construction industry, contractors are upskilling themselves water infrastructure opportunities. As demand increases, contractors such as Zachry, Burns & McDonnell and Ferrovial have taken on water jobs, specifically in Texas.

To this end, Zachry, who acquired water infrastructure company Crescent Constructors last fall to deepen the sector, it keeps these opportunities at the forefront of its business approach. On April 21, the builder appointed Travis Mross as the next president and doubled the water work.

The expected completion date for the Trinity River Authority project is the fourth quarter of 2029, according to the announcement.
