Trichy: Two guest workers from Chhattisgarh died after a backhoe ran over them while they were sleeping near their truck on a petrol bunk in Perambalur early on Sunday.Police identified the deceased as R Rubesh Kumar Sori, 25, and R Dakiswar, 21, both from Kanker in Chhattisgarh. The duo worked as helpers with a private well installation company.The workers reached the petrol bunk in Palayam village on Saturday night and slept next to their truck. Around 5 am on Sunday, 20-year-old K Kabil, a backhoe operator, moved the heavy machinery that was parked on the same petrol bunk.Police said Kabil did not notice that the two workers were sleeping nearby due to darkness and accidentally ran over them while moving the machinery towards the main road. The two workers died on the spot.The Perambalur rural police reached the spot and sent the bodies to the Perambalur government hospital for post-mortem. Further investigation is underway.
