The skilled trades were instrumental in the successful completion of the top-to-bottom high-end upgrade at the headquarters of one of North America’s largest construction industry unions. Enhancements range from a lobby renovation that includes custom millwork, limestone columns and a café, to a unique rooftop meeting/event space highlighted by a massive wooden dome and an operable radio shop, offering panoramic views of the skyline.
To meet the aggressive schedule to complete the first phase before the presidential inauguration, the team implemented a construction process that allowed early procurement and construction activities while finalizing design details. When the owner requested a more complex roof design on the roof dome after construction began, a design-assist approach allowed the team to expedite changes and stay on schedule, allowing for concurrent work and avoiding delays in the approval process.
The new design, simulated in model form, received client approval quickly, keeping the project on schedule.
