The US Air Force and defense contractor Northrop Grumman have begun work on a massive expansion at an Air Force manufacturing plant in California.
The team broke ground in a new final assembly line at Air Force Plant 42located in Palmdale, California, according to an Oct. 8 press release. Northrop Grumman and the Air Force will use the facilities manufacture the B-21 Raidera stealth bomber.
The project will add more than 1 million square meters of facilities that will help increase the plant’s production capacity, according to the announcement.
Expansion follows a agreement at the beginning of the year between the Air Force and Northrop Grumman to increase manufacturing capacity for the B-21 Raider, according to an Air Force announcement in February. The total investment in the project will reach 4.5 billion dollars, which was appropriated through One Big Beautiful Bill.
“This innovation represents more than a build; it represents a sustained commitment to deliver the capability our nation needs at the speed the security environment demands,” said Gen. Dale White, director of critical major weapons systems, in the announcement.
Indeed, other builders have profited recently from military construction projects for both the armed forces and private contractors.
JE Dunn and Alberici, for example, began building a over $3.2 billion of a new shipyard on September 30, the first to be built in the US since World War II. Alongside these builders, Turner Construction, Granite Construction, Skanska and Tutor Perini also recently they promoted their own victories for contracts between military branches.
