Bespoke Metrics, owner of Procore and Compass, announced Oct. 15 that Compass will be the default provider of subcontractor prequalification services on Procore’s construction management platform as the preferred subcontractor prequalification platform.
Compass, an AI-powered platform, has been available on Procore’s platform for more than two years, but the new partnership will use Compass’ model-context-protocol connection to allow general contractors using Procore to receive a Compass Q score and prequalification results, but not the financials behind it, from Compass’s platform. Subcontractors’ financial data will still reside only on Compass’ servers.
MCP is an open source standard introduced by Anthropic in November 2024 which was later donated to the Agentic AI Foundation operated by the Linux Foundation. It allows agent AI applications to connect to external data sources, such as Compass credit information, and workflows such as Procore’s construction management platform.
“Clearly, Compass is not going to be the LLM you’re going to use for all your AI needs,” says Michael Ho, CEO of Bespoke Metrics, which owns Compass. “If we can capture the AI component of the risk and then serve the risk outputs to Procore … that sounds like a perfect integration to us. So the risk manager would use us and our AI. It would serve intelligence without crossing over in terms of sensitive data.”
As part of the partnership, Procore is launching Prequal for All, offering Compass prequalification to all general contractors and subcontractors working for Procore. Compass analyzes a subcontractor’s financial, safety, insurance and operational information to generate a Q score (for qualification) and store a qualification profile that is updated in its database. Prequal scores and results are the only things shared through Prequal for All on the Procore platform.
“Prequalification is a critical risk management function that requires purpose-built tools and a data-rich platform,” Geoff Lewis, Procore’s senior vice president of product, said in a statement. “By deepening our partnership with Bespoke Metrics and further integrating their insights directly into Procore’s AI-powered platform, we can replace passive and static forms with modern, active risk intelligence.”
Ho said that as someone who came to construction technology through the lending and banking industry, the construction approach to grading was always difficult to justify.
“I came from a credit background, from a rating agency, and so every industry does this counterparty assessment, the pre-qualification.” said, “It didn’t make sense to me that you would go into a professional relationship and not do that. My metaphor is always before you get married, you have to have that discussion.”
