MURFREESBORO, TN – An 18-year-old Murfreesboro man died Tuesday morning in a two-car crash. The wreck happened on Franklin Road, also known as Highway 96, around 7:30 a.m.
A man driving a Kenworth big rig was trying to turn into a job site when another vehicle crashed into the back of his trailer. Witnesses say the semi-truck was pulling a low trailer used to transport construction equipment such as bulldozers and backhoes.
The wreck happened in front of the construction site of a new retirement community being built and near the Royal Glenn subdivision on Highway 96, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Troopers told WGNS News that 18-year-old Jakaiya Hughes ran into the back of the trailer and was pronounced dead. A motorist who stopped near the scene of the wreck said, “The sun was blinding drivers in the Murfreesboro-bound lane that morning, and that may have made it difficult to see the stopped big rig.”
No charges were filed against the driver of the big rig.
