Farrans is to build a £45m retirement community in south Oxfordshire for developer Inspired Villages.
In the first phase of the Widmore Park development on Sonning Common (pictured), Belfast-based Farrans will deliver 73 homes for the over-65s, as well as a wellness suite with swimming pool and gym.
Construction news has approached Farrans and Inspired Village for a project timetable for the first phase, but the former stated that when fully complete, the entire scheme will provide 133 homes for the over 65s and other community amenities such as a cafe, a restaurant and a library.
Inspired Villages operates nine retirement villages, while three more are under construction.
Glenn Gilmore, regional director of Farrans, said Sonning Common was a development at the heart of an area with significant demand for retirement accommodation.
“The design has brought elements that will foster a true community spirit, with opportunities to socialize, relax and stay active,” he explained.
“We will engage with the local community throughout our work on site and hope to leave a positive and lasting legacy in the area.”
Inspired Villages, which recently opened a zero retirement community at Millfield Green in Bedfordshire, said Widmore Park would carry the same sustainability credentials, focusing on ground source heat pump technology.
“Sonning Common is an important step in the expansion of our portfolio, enabling us to support the shortage of specialist homes for later living in the South Oxfordshire area,” said Neal Dale, Director of Property and Development of the promoter.
Farrans, a Tarmac sister company and a trading division of Northstone (NI) Limited, was recently chosen to deliver the first phase of the regeneration of Leeds Bradford Airport and is part of the joint venture. appointed to complete a major upgrade of the A52 in Nottingham.
