The CEO of WSP in the United States will retire

WSP USA President and CEO Lou Cornell will retire next year, the Montreal-based company announced last week. Cornell joined WSP in 2019, after five years as a senior executive in the Buildings and Infrastructure Americas group at Dallas-based contractor Jacobs.

Prior to that time, he was Senior Vice President, Director of California District Operations for AECOM, also based in Dallas.

He has over 30 years of broad and progressive design and management experience in the engineering, environmental, architecture and construction industry according to his LinkedIn account. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

Cornell will continue to oversee the US business until his retirement in 2024, and the company has begun a search for his replacement.

WSP earnings, revenue and portfolio all went up in the third quarter this year, according to its earnings report released last week. According to CEO Alexandre L’Heureux, revenue grew in all reportable segments and the global construction and engineering giant is benefiting from various government stimulus efforts.

In addition, the company recently received several recognitions: It was included in Fortune magazine’s Change the World 2023 list, Time magazine’s 2023 list of the world’s best companies, and Engineering News-Record’s top list. The 225 best international design companies for the third consecutive year.
