Balfour Beatty is to deliver almost £20m of coastal defense works in East Anglia.
The contractor was appointed by North Norfolk District Council for schemes in Cromer and Mundesley.
Acquired through Scape’s civil engineering framework, the projects are designed to protect 600 properties from flooding and erosion.
Balfour is to deliver the second phase of the Cromer Coastal Management Scheme, following remedial works completed eight years ago.
The UK’s biggest contractor will place around 38,000 tonnes of rock to build a revetment to the west of the seaside town’s pier.
It will also use 36,000 tonnes of beach rock about seven miles offshore as part of Mundesley’s coastal management programme.
This project will include the repair works of the existing dikes, as well as the rehabilitation of the breakwaters used to manage the flow of sediments.
Peter Mumford, managing director of Balfour Beatty’s regional civil business, said the company had been delivering flood defense works for 25 years.
“These latest contract awards will build on our wealth of experience and significant knowledge and enable us to deliver these schemes to the highest standards to provide much-needed protection for the communities of Cromer and Mundesley,” he said.
North Norfolk District Councilor Harry Blathwayt added: “Previous collaborations on major coastal engineering projects have always produced positive results, much appreciated by all who benefit from the peace of mind they bring. In In this case, 600 homes and businesses will be protected in Mundesley and Cromer.
Work on both schemes is expected to begin this winter and is expected to be completed by early 2025.
