Bachy Soletanche Holdings (Europe) has added more than £100 million to its turnover in one year.

The Lancashire-based earth engineering specialist posted revenue of £221.6m in the 12 months ending 31 December 2022, up 91% on the previous year.

Pre-tax profit rose 87% over the same period to £8m.

Bachy said the huge increase in turnover was largely down to a couple of HS2 projects last year.

“One of these contracts was substantially completed in 2022, and the other contract will continue through 2023 and beyond,” the firm said in a report alongside its latest results.

“With increased levels of activity on the HS2 works in 2023, the group is anticipating an increase in turnover next year.”

Bachy also had major work on London’s Thames Tideway super lock last year.

The number of staff increased by almost a third to an average of 461 employees. Payroll costs rose by a similar proportion to £30.3m, while directors’ pay was broadly flat at £565,000.

A Bachy Soletanche-Balfour Beatty joint venture has delivered a series of geotechnical works on the Long Itchington to North Birmingham section of the fast rail line.

The joint venture also concluded its ground engineering and foundations package for HS2’s Old Oak common station earlier this year. Last year the team was also awarded a separate contract to install more than 2,300 piles to support eight of the Great Western Main Line platforms at West London station and an accommodation building shared
