The backhoe bandits strike again.
This time, a backhoe was stolen from a business in St. John’s and used to break into the liquor store attached to Dominion on Blackmarsh Road.
The owners of Urban Market 1919 woke up to a backhoe missing from the lot off Lemarchant Road. They bought the machine just a week ago for snow removal operations.
Owner Greg Hanley says tracks could be seen leading to St. Michaels.
Hanley says when he went to the RNC station to file a report this morning, he learned the backhoe had been recovered by police. It says the license plate matches.
The hit-and-run occurred shortly before 5:00 this morning. The backhoe was located near Melville Place.
RNC says two people entered the liquor store and left with merchandise. One person was wearing a black beanie, a gray sweater, and beige pants, and had a black reusable bag and another type of backpack. The other was wearing a dark jacket, jeans and white sneakers with the Nike symbol.
RNC is looking for video footage from approximately 3:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. in the area of Hamilton Avenue at Blackmarsh Road.
Hanley says it’s a stressful situation for the companies involved. He says it’s unbelievable how much money and stress this incident will cost employers. He hopes anyone with information will report it to the police or Crime Stoppers.
