A customer on a tight budget wanted to save money on a shipment of 1999 Caterpillar forklifts as a less-than-truckload (LTL) shipment.

John Shanley from our West Palm Beach, Florida office understood that the customer wanted to save money by shipping the Caterpillar forklift as LTL. So he put in feelers for a driver who had other LTL freight and would also fit the forklift.
There are several types of trailers that carry LTL, including flatbeds, stepovers, and Conestogas.
However, based on the customer’s budget, John had to find an LTL load that fit the customer’s price range.

Initially, the loaders of the Heavy Haulers placed the 1999 6-foot wide.
After an extensive search, John found an LTL carrier carrying a Conestoga trailer that had enough room for the Caterpillar forklift.
What is a Conestoga trailer?
A Conestoga trailer is a type of flatbed trailer with a retractable canvas system. The canvas system can be retracted by the driver to load gear from the side, then closed again to protect from the elements.
The shipping estimate fit the customer’s budget perfectly and the driver was close enough to fit within the delivery window.
John confirmed with the customer and sent the driver.

The driver delivered the Caterpillar forklift safely and on time. Also, thanks to the Conestoga trailer tarp, the forklift avoided flying debris, such as small rocks on the road. The Conestoga trailer added an extra layer of protection to make sure the forklift didn’t sustain any damage.
