OVERTON TOWNSHIP – During Overton Township’s final meeting of the year, supervisors approved a letter of intent to purchase a new backhoe. The township’s current John Deere backhoe has been around since 2016 and will be replaced by a newer model.

“This one has more hours than the machine we traded it in for,” noted road manager Dennis Chase. The new machine will come with a five-year warranty.

The motion was approved, with Chairman Supervisor Lloyd Decker absent.

Chase reported that he had purchased a power saw for the township, but when he opened it at the store he discovered it was in used condition.

“It had oil and gas all over it and I took the battery out and it was full of mud,” Chase reported.

He returned the saw to the store after the weekend to purchase a new model, making sure to open and inspect the saw before purchasing. Chase also noted that between the original purchase and the return, the saw had gone on sale, resulting in an $80 credit to the township, which was reflected in the invoice report.

Shelli McGroarty reported that she had discovered that the township is not required to hold a year-end meeting. The supervisors took that into account, but did not immediately say they would not hold a year-end meeting in late 2024.

McGroarty also presented two options for managing payroll.

Quickbooks Pro Plus would cost $649 per year while Enterprise Gold would cost $1,464 per year, with McGroarty recommending Quickbooks. Supervisors voted to approve the Quickbooks purchase.
