ENR Midwest has selected Terracon Company as its Design Firm of the Year for 2024.
Design Companies of the Year are chosen by a vote of ENR’s regional editors across the country from a carefully selected pool of finalists. Factors include regional revenue, new initiatives, current projects, community and industry contributions and other considerations.
Founded in 1965 and headquartered in Olathe, Kan., Terracon is a 100% employee-owned consulting engineering firm specializing in environmental, facilities, geotechnical and materials services. Terracon currently has more than 6,000 employees in 175 locations, serving all 50 states across the country.
One of its largest projects in the Midwest is the replacement of the Chester Bridge over the Mississippi River. Other Midwest projects include a new $100 million foundry for AY McDonald Manufacturing Co.; a new $350 million facility for the American Royal complex that includes a learning and engagement center and 100 acres of space for livestock shows and other events in Kansas City, Kan.; and construction of the $732 million Dam and Dam 25 improvement project in Winfield, Missouri. In 2023, the company too navigated complex subsurface and geotechnical challenges to help rebuild Chicago’s Jane Byrne Interchange.
The Terracon Foundation offers grants and scholarships through its charitable matching gift program; More than $3.7 million has been awarded to organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Kansas City, Missouri, and Engineers Without Borders.
A profile of Terracon will appear in the May print issue of ENR Midwest, which will also feature our annual ranking of the region’s top design firms. Congratulations to this year’s winner!
