After a pandemic-related work stoppage that also forced a 25 percent reduction in the project’s scope, the team relaunched the upgrade with a sequenced modification installing detailed and intricate steel reinforcements to the hockey arena’s barrel roof and adding a new media loft.
While choreographing the demolition of the wall and moving materials and equipment in and out of the building, the team maintained the ice rink’s precise temperature and humidity specifications.
Other renovations included a full-size multipurpose sports rink, renovated men’s and women’s hockey locker rooms, strength and conditioning facilities, offices, an academic space for student-athletes and a new hospitality room for team fans.
All work was scheduled around games and other team activities.
The foundations of a deferred multi-purpose field were completed and covered with high-density rigid insulation and gravel to protect against Vermont winters.
When it’s time to build, the insulation can be removed and key connection points easily located without causing damage.
