Spain Fork Community Network’s new headquarters helps the city provide internet, cable and phone services for a rapidly growing residential population. The two-story, 24,500-square-meter building is highly functional and adaptable, with room for growth and flexibility for ever-changing technological advances.
Although the project faced steel delays, in this case, that delay ended up saving the schedule. Early in the project, the team almost had to rip out an improperly placed footing and poorly placed anchor walls. However, the steel delay allowed the fabricators enough time to move the columns directionally into the base plates, mitigating the need to replace the concrete and move the anchor wall placements, saving the schedule.
Faced with delays in the electrical equipment, the teams chose to use a temporary electrical equipment in order to maintain the employment deadline.
The upper part of the administration part of the building is finished with a rear ventilated facade system of Swisspearl fiber cement, giving the building a unique appearance. Since it was a material the contractor had not worked with before, it required careful planning and heightened coordination during installation.
Several design elements enhance the functionality of the building, including the orientation of windows to provide passive solar heating.
As the network and community grow, the building will be able to accommodate additional employees, equipment and store space.
