Providence, Rhode Island-based Gilbane Building Co. has added former Lendlease executive Steven Carter as its new director of global health and safety. the contractor announced on August 14.

In his new role, Carter will strengthen the company’s safety program, which includes training, compliance and its workplace safety culture, according to a news release. Carter began his role earlier this month and is currently based in Los Angeles, according to his LinkedIn.
Before joining Gilbane, Carter spent more than 13 years with struggling Australian builder Lendlease, most recently as director of environment, health and safety, according to Carter’s LinkedIn. His departure comes at a time when the company is reorienting their priorities in domestic work i selling its assets in the midst of heavy losses in his business.
Carter began his career in operational roles, including managing his own business, and later moved into security work, for Gilbane. He has a master’s degree in occupational health and safety from the University of Greenwich in the United Kingdom
Carter is the latest in a series of high-profile contracts for the contractor. Earlier this month, Gilbane tapped Anthony Armento will lead the preconstruction efforts of the firm’s Philadelphia office and contracted Greg Garvin will direct the purchases in July
