In his new role, Carter will strengthen the company’s safety program, which includes training, compliance and its workplace safety culture, according to a news release. Carter began his role earlier this month and is currently based in Los Angeles, according to his LinkedIn.

Before joining Gilbane, Carter spent more than 13 years with struggling Australian builder Lendlease, most recently as director of environment, health and safety, according to Carter’s LinkedIn. Carter is the latest in a series of high-profile contracts for the contractor. Earlier this month, Gilbane tapped Anthony Armento will lead the preconstruction efforts of the firm’s Philadelphia office and contracted Greg Garvin will direct the purchases in July

“Steve’s forward-thinking strategies in occupational health and safety will reinforce Gilbane’s strong commitment to safety,” said Heidi DeBenedetti, the company’s chief operating officer, in the press release.
