Laing O’Rourke has appointed Cameron Gilmour as unit leader of its Crown House Technologies (CHT) engineering business.
Gilmour (pictured) spent 32 years at energy contractor Altrad Babcock, formerly known as Doosan Babcock, where he worked on new build projects including Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C and rose to vice president of nuclear.
Laing O’Rourke, the country’s fourth largest contractor according to the CN100 2022, said the appointment would help drive innovation and efficiency at CHT.
Gilmour will work closely with Gavin Body, who was appointed managing director of subsidiary operations in February, to ensure a focus on both current project delivery and securing new work.
CHT is in Laing O’Rourke’s Specialist Trading Business Group (STBG), which also includes Expanded, Select Plant Hire, Explore Manufacturing, Vetter and GRCUK.
STBG director Peter Lyons said: “It’s great to have Cameron in the role. He has a wealth of engineering and business experience and has also worked on the type of large energy projects which are an important component of the future order book for Laing O’Rourke.
“His insights will be crucial to increasing innovation and efficiency within CHT as market demand continues to grow for the security provided by our integrated supply chain.”
Gilmour said: “I’m delighted to be joining CHT and Laing O’Rourke, two companies I’ve known and admired for many years. I’ve started to get to know some of the CHT team and have been very impressed with his knowledge and passion.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know the company and its people and working with them to drive innovation and develop exciting manufactured products that will help change the way MEP elements are delivered for our buildings and vital infrastructure.”
CHT is currently working on projects such as Everton’s new stadium, the Future Olympia and various schemes for the Ministry of Defence.
Laing O’Rourke last week announced plans to cut up to 200 jobs, mainly at its head office in Dartford.
