Value: C$898 million ($667 million)
Location: Prince Albert, Saskatchewan
Customer: Government of Saskatchewan

PCL based in Edmonton, Alberta won a $667 million design-build contract from the Saskatchewan government to create a new acute care tower at the Prince Albert Victoria Hospital, according to a Feb. 1 news release. The project includes a design and first works agreement that the government awarded to PCL in December 2022.

PCL will build a helipad on the tower’s roof, an expanded emergency department, larger operating rooms, pediatrics, maternity, a neonatal intensive care unit, new medical imaging and a First Nations and Métis cultural space, among other key services, according to the statement. . The new structure will increase the overall capacity of Victoria Hospital by 40%, from 173 to 242 beds.

“On behalf of PCL Construction and the extended design and construction team, we would like to express our pride and excitement in delivering the Victoria Hospital project for the Indigenous communities of Prince Albert, Northern Saskatchewan and the what this hospital serves,” said Mike. Staines, PCL district manager, in the statement.

Throughout the process, PCL will engage with local and indigenous vendors to provide services on the job, the company said. The first works include a new parking lot, which will be paved this spring, according to the release.

Construction on the new tower will begin in the spring of 2024, and officials anticipate completion in 2028.
