Skanska has landed one of its biggest fit-out jobs yet, winning a £158m contract for a data center in London’s Docklands.
The work will be part of a larger facility upgrade by global data center provider Telehouse. The 10-storey Telehouse South, in Blackwall Yard, is one of five data centers the company operates in the Docklands.
The project will see Skanska’s mechanical, electrical and public health engineering specialists fit out two plants, including installing electrical, air conditioning and ventilation plants and systems.
A new roof gantry for the first floor will also be installed, along with new lifts.
Other construction work on site, which will be delivered by Skanska’s construction team, includes replacing cladding, reconfiguring the building’s secure entrances, a new shed and new fencing.
The award follows Skanska’s delivery of an early works package to Telehouse South as part of a pre-construction services agreement.
Skanska Building Services CEO Dan Williams said the company’s track record made it well qualified for the job.
“It’s something we’re ideally suited for as we have experience in providing a wide range of data center fit-outs,” he said.
Telehouse Europe CEO Takayo Takamuro said Telehouse South had established itself as a connectivity hub of critical importance to the company and its customers.
“The ongoing construction and development of this state-of-the-art data center underscores the high standards of security, sustainability and operational excellence that Telehouse is able to offer its data center customers today,” he said.
The first works have already started, and the main contract is due to be completed in June 2024.
