A backhoe operator was injured when he was hit by a large rock during a rock slide at a quarry site in Barangay Masiag, Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat.
The operator was immediately taken to the hospital and is now safe.
The backhoe was also damaged by falling limestone.
According to the barangay council, part of the area the backhoe operator was digging gave way.
Continuous rains were blamed for the rock slide.
“At that time, the quarry was going on in the area and the upper part gave up because this incident happened,” said Barangay Masiag Councilor Hernane Galve Jr.
Due to the incident, the exploitation of the quarry in the area is temporarily suspended.
The authorities have cleared the road that was cut by the rocks so that it can be used.
