Providence, Rhode Island-based Gilbane Building Co. has tapped 20-year company veteran Greg Garvin as its new director of global purchasingthe contractor announced on July 22.

In this role, Garvin will lead the development of strategy for global purchasing activities and strengthen partnerships with commercial contractors working in Gilbane’s regions, according to the release. The news comes in the middle of first drop in construction input prices in 2024.

In addition, Garvin will also be responsible for implementing key relationship management programs, improving performance and driving innovation while working to forge stronger partnerships with commercial contractors serving Gilbane’s various market sectors, according to the press release.

Garvin’s relationship with Gilbane is long. While attending Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island, he interned at the construction company in 2004, according to his LinkedIn account. After graduating from college, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in construction management, he became a superintendent and office engineer for the company.

His most recent position at Gilbane was as chief purchasing agent for the company’s New England region.

“Greg will take our procurement strategy to the next level, enhancing our relationships with business partners and bringing more value to our customers,” said Steve Duvel, senior vice president and leader of operations support services at Gilbane. “Greg’s proven ability to build relationships, innovate and execute process improvements will be an incredible asset in this new role.”
