The judges of the ENR South East Best Regional Projects 2024 competition had their work cut out for them this year choosing the best projects completed in the last year in the South East.
Of the more than 120 projects submitted to the competition, an increase of approximately 50% in the number of entries compared to the 2023 competition, the judges chose 35 projects as Best Project or Award of Merit winners in 16 categories .
This year, our judges were:
- Stuart Bruening, Senior Vice President, Atlanta Office Leader, JE Dunn
- Keith Douglas, executive vice president of Whiting-Turner Contracting Co.
- Roy Garcia, Senior Vice President of Architecture, Goodwyn Mills Cawood
- Kathy Leo, Vice President, Business Sector Leader, Community Infrastructure, GAI Consultants
- Eric Lindstrom, Owner/Designer, SFL+A Architects
- Ron Osterloh, vice president and director of Georgia operations, Moffatt & Nichol
- Ray Riddle, vice president of Holder Construction
- Shirshant Sharma, Senior Project Manager, Charlotte Office Leader, AtkinsRealis
- Ron Whalen, Vice President of Roger B Kennedy Construction
They scored the projects based on several criteria, including how the project teams overcame challenges and worked together as a team, how they innovated and contributed to the industry, the quality of the project’s construction and craftsmanship, the its function and aesthetics, and much more. To avoid conflicts of interest, the judges did not vote on projects in which they or their company were involved.
The judges also nominated three projects as finalists for the ENR Southeast 2024 Project of the Year, the winner of which will be announced in Orlando at the ENR Southeast Best Projects Awards event, where we will also award the owner of the ENR Southeast’s Design Firm of the Year, Contractor of the Year, Specialty Contractor of the Year and Legacy Award Winner.
