Built on a narrow site surrounded by busy roads and sidewalks next to the state’s third-busiest commuter rail stop, the more than 167,000-square-foot, six-story mixed-use property that is part of a revitalization The center’s largest includes 106 units, a wide variety of amenities and 9,000 square meters of retail space.
Excavating the footings of the garage below the level of the fence line required shoring to strengthen the site and prevent structural collapse. Designed to complement the emerging neighborhood while adding to the existing aesthetic, the project incorporates the iconic Joseph A. Appleton Building as a prominent corner element. It also includes a lounge and billiards room, a gym and an urban-style courtyard.
The building also has a sky lounge and terrace with sweeping views of the nearby Bass River. The team had to move all their equipment and close the main access road for half the day every Monday from May to October for a weekly farmer’s market located across the street. The team scheduled deliveries both to accommodate the market and to ensure that the project schedule was maintained.
