Chicago-based Leopardo Construction has announced new leadership promotions. Leigh McMillen is elevated to executive vice president of operations and Steve Smith he is now executive vice president of markets. Jessica Sherwood is senior vice president of growth, and Ralph Borscht he is promoted to senior vice president of field operations. Todd Welch is promoted to financial director, and Ryan Haase he is now vice president of aviation.

UK-based construction consultancy Soben has elevated its Chicago-based executive Joe Cusick to the group’s operations director, a newly created position. Since joining in 2021, he has led the company’s expansion in the Americas, with operations now in the US, Chile, Brazil and Mexico.

William S. Haas has joined WSP as a Chicago-based senior vice president and national market leader for distributed power and electrification. He had been vice president of energy at AECOM focused on managing major decarbonization and electrification efforts. Haas was named to ENR’s 2020 National Top 40 Professionals Under 40 list.

Derek Cunzpresident of Mortenson, the Minneapolis-based construction, development and engineering services company, will get the added role of CEO on January 1, 2025. He will succeed. Dan Johnsonwho is retiring on December 31 after a 38-year career with the company, including eight as CEO. Cunz was promoted to president in 2022. He was a key team member on Mortenson’s Walt Disney Concert Hall project, completed in 2003, in which he helped pioneer the early use of virtual design and construction . Johnson will remain on Mortenson’s board of directors. The company, which has more than 7,000 employees, is ranked No. 27 on ENR’s Top 400 Contractors list, with revenue of $5.5 billion by 2023. Mortenson is also No. 16 on the Top 200 list ENR environmental companies.

BKV Group, a multidisciplinary design firm in Minneapolis, has appointed Kyle Yardley managing partner in Chicago for its national government practice, which focuses on the design of civic facilities including city halls, justice complexes, law enforcement centers, and civic and community spaces. Most recently, he was the Justice and Civic Client Leader and Principal Designer at DLR Group in Denver.

Anees Rahman has joined design consultant RS&H in Chicago as a senior principal electrical engineer. In this role, he leads aviation electrical projects as a design lead and subject matter expert. Rahman was vice president and senior director of electrical engineering at Primera Engineers.

Jim Schlaman

The Woolpert consultancy has hired Jim Schlaman as vice president and market director for water and power utilities, based in the Kansas City area. A 24-year veteran of Black & Veatch, he had been associate vice president and director of water resources and community planning. Schlaman is also a member of the US Water Alliance’s One Water Council.

Jordi Franco

Alberici-Flintco, St. Louis, has named Jordi Franco as chief innovation officer to advance corporate innovation strategies to align technology implementation with operational efficiency and business needs. He was vice president of advanced technologies and innovation at Moss & Associates and is also the founder and CEO of Triva Inc., a new technology company. Franco is based in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area.
