The work openings available in the construction sector showed decreases from month to month and year after year. Economists point to the precaution of investors and owners who take a waiting approach, at least in the short term, as rates are not resolved and the discomfort about economic perspectives persists. The sector jobs dropped 38,000 on the last day of March compared to February numbers, according to the recent published Labor Survey and Labor Survey of the United States Office. Year a year, the 248,000 construction work openings reported 90,000 of the number recorded in March 2024.

“Construction work openings continued to tend in March in March, a clear sign of curbing the demand for work throughout the industry,” said Anirban Basu, the chief economist of builders and the contractors in a statement. “With the activity of abandonment and dismissal also subjected to the month, the construction of the labor is practically non -existent at the moment.”

Regionally, the number of jobs increased the maximum in the DC metro areas of Arlington, Alexandria and Reston, in the last year, while the largest loss was in the area of the Los Angeles subway. In general, only 192 of 360 regions experienced a greater occupation of the construction, while the number of jobs decreased in 117 areas and remained the same in 51.

“In the last twelve months, almost half of the subway areas experienced an increase in construction, a significant slowdown last year,” said Ken Simonson, an economist in none of the general associated general contractors, in a statement. “It may be a sign that investors and project owners suspend more investments until they have more clarity about rate and labor policies that can affect cost, calendar and demand for construction.”

Basu also said that rates could influence current figures. “While most contractors surveyed in March expect to increase staff levels over the next six months, according to the ABC construction confidence index, rates and other economic heads may contain hiring expectations in the coming months,” he said.
