The Trump Administration has invested at least one of its actions to delete climate data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration websites with a recent decision to continue the development of a database aimed at predicting flash flood risks.

The movement is a face of the administration that at the beginning of this summer did a work in the second phase of Atlas 15 of Noaa, a partial database partially funded by the Investment Law of Infrastructure of 2021 that provides estimates of rain and floods throughout the US, the reversal of the administration took place in the midst of the growing criticisms of the National National National Service in the National Meteorological Service after the National Meteorological Service. flashes in Texas earlier this month.

Atlas 15 is an evolution of Atlas 14 of Noaa, which does not take into account the current data of climate change. A recent CNN report said that the national infrastructure design has been based on the obsolete information of the oldest database on the size and frequency of 100 -year -old storm events.

It seems that there is no other change of direction, however, about the executions to close, transfer or delete public access to other websites and sets of climate change data Noaa.

The Resurrection of Atlas 15 follows the release of the proposed budget cuts of the Administration for the year 2026, which seeks to reduce the budget of Noaa 27%, or About 1.67 billion dollars. Programs on the chopper block include the Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Office of Noaa and other climate research facilities and programs throughout the country. It also follows significant staff cuts to federal agencies, including in Noaa.

According to a recent report from the Union of Affected Scientists (UCS), the administration has carried out more than 400 attacks on science in its first six months, a number that Rachel Cleetus, director of Senior Policies at the UCS, told Enr that it is alarming. “This is such an important information,” Cleetus said. “This should not be political football. It’s about safeguarding people’s lives.”

Many transport agencies use weather information to predict short-term risk and plan post-event logistics, and the greater availability of analytical data and techniques allow for more resistant designs and proactive infrastructure management, according to a report by the American Road & Transportion Builders Association last year. He said that Noaa has significantly invested in the collection and forecast of a range of environmental information and provided public access to his open data on commercial cloud platforms through public-private collaborations.

Climate science websites get dark

According to the administration’s attack on climate change products and services, some of the NOAA’s websites and data sets have already darkened.

It includes the shutter at the beginning of this month of the site of the Global Change Research (USGCRP) of the United States, GlobalCanenge.gov, which houses the National Climate Evaluation, a report obliged to the congress published every four years to analyze the effects of climate change. In April, the administration dissolved the volunteer team of about 400 scientific experts working in the latest report.

In addition to these reports, the GlobalChange.gov site hosted another coordinated information between federal agencies, said Cleetus, who was one of the fired scientific experts.

In the meantime, Noaa said in a declaration of June 30 that he would transfer all current and future climate research products.GOV to Noaa.gov/climate to consolidate resources.

“This does not begin through Noaa who decides that this is a better way to store this data. It is about moving data based on arbitrary political standards,” said Cleetus. “Noaa has a very strong scientific integrity policy.”

Last month, the national environmental satellite data of the Agency and the Information Service (NESDIS) – which provides environmental information products and services – requested or removed several web pages and data sets and said that it plans to suspend the others. Nesdis provides information to the National Hurricane Center among other entities.

Among the other affected Nesdis entities is the climate disaster and climate disaster, which provides important data sets for insurers and others that are dedicated to understanding communities, said Cleetus.

Changes in Noaa have led to harsh criticism of environmental groups, some legislators and others.

American senator Chris van Hollen (D-MD), Ranking Member of the Trade Commerce, Justice, Science (CJS), said in a statement last week after the full passage of the CJS Costs Bill, “we have worked to maintain critical funding for a wide range of programs, including Investments in … and the health of the bay of the bay.
