Brief of diving:

  • Meta Ball The use of massive wood: a lasting and renewable Industrial substitute based on wood For concrete, steel and other construction materials: to build data centers with less embodied carbon emissions, the company announced on Thursday.
  • Social media and technological conglomerate said that he has successfully used mass wood to build an administrative building on an South Carolina Data Center campus this year. The pilot will continue to build additional buildings in Wyoming and Alabama, According to a July 31 blogt.
  • The goal is not the only technological giant to go to massive wood (including cross -linked laminated wood (CLT) to create more sustainable data centers. Last year, Microsoft announced that I would use CLT In a hybrid construction strategy to build a couple of lower emissions data centers, combining lasting wood with steel and concrete.

Divide vision:

Meta, the Facebook Matrix, Instagram and WhatsApp, is adding massive wood to its lower emission construction strategy, part of its widest goal to achieve Net-Zero emissions in your supply chain by 2030. Meta is also a member of the Rocky Mountain Institute’s sustainable steel buyers platform and previously has piloted the Use of low carbon concrete In data centers.

The social media giant estimated that the incorporation of massive wood into its administrative buildings will decrease the carbon emissions embodied in these facilities by 41%, by the blog. Incarnated emissions Represent greenhouse gas emissions on the life cycle of construction materials, which are overlooked from extraction to construction to removal, according to RMI. In addition to the wood that has less emissions in the life cycle than concrete or steel, the lower weight also reduces the amount of concrete needed for the founding of the building.

“Carbon emissions associated with the sustainable harvesting of wood, milling and manufacturing it to create usable materials for industrial application are usually much lower than the emissions associated with the manufacture of steel and concrete.” Meta said to the blog. “Low carbon materials such as massive wood are needed, as we are looking for alternatives in construction to achieve a net at zero.”

The first meta -completed administrative building with massive wood was built in the company Aiken County, South Carolina Campus This year, the company said. Meta received the building building materials from Smartlam and DPR directed the construction.

Meta will be associated with Fortis Construction and Mercer Mass Timber to build additional massive wooden buildings on his Cheyenne campus, Wyoming. In the meantime, the construction firm Hensel Phelps and the Massive Wooden Company Binderholz will manage the work on the Montgomery site of the technological giant Alabama.

Meta said it plans to experiment with the use of massive wood in more administrative buildings, warehouses and data rooms.
