Several combined student programs at Tooele Tech now have their own space. A campus expansion and expansion added 38,400 square feet of new building space, 23,500 square feet of renovated space and a new outdoor commercial driver’s license training range. Classrooms and training spaces now more closely reflect the real-world designs of professional work environments, helping students graduate better prepared to start their careers.

It wasn’t until after the project was awarded that the team learned that the students would not be relocated during construction. As students would continue to attend class, the project team worked with the university to identify five primary work phases and four smaller sub-phases.

Although phases were added to the project, no additional time was added to the schedule and construction did not disrupt campus activities. The adjustment to a phased approach significantly changed the original utility installation plan.

Instead of a simple continuous campus-wide installation, teams maintained backup systems that kept critical services running while upgrades were made or critical changes were made late or overnight.
