Models of Kubota mini excavators
Kubota offers several models of mini excavators, especially the “KX” series and the “U” series. The main difference between the two model designations is that the “U” series has zero or minimal tail movement, depending on the model.
Each Kubota Mini Excavator model will have a different hydraulic flow rate and operating weight. Let’s look at some common Kubota mini excavators and consider what is a good fit for many common attachments.
We’ll begin our recommendations for booms, brush cutters, and hydraulic breakers for the common KX series Kubota excavators.
A note on Kubota Mini Excavator brush cutter recommendations
Weight is an important consideration when looking at a mini excavator brush cutter. This is because we often use the brush cutter with the arm fully extended, reaching from the excavator. We also tend to lift the brush cutter over objects while it is fully extended. Using a brush cutter that is too heavy under these circumstances could result in overturning.
When determining the maximum weight of a brush cutter for each model, I used the maximum lift weight with the arm fully extended next to the mini excavator.
This is usually the most restrictive weight; therefore, if the brushcutter can be safely lifted in this dimension, it should be safe to lift in all directions.
Of course, just because you’ve met the weight limit doesn’t mean you won’t tip the mini excavator, as operator technique and terrain come into play.
Kubota KX033-4 Mini Excavator
The Kubota KX033-4 is the next step in Kubota mini excavators, and its additional weight and hydraulic flow require larger and more powerful attachments.
The operating weight of the KX033-4 is close to 7,400 pounds in the canopy version, and the three-cylinder diesel engine produces more than 24.8 horsepower.
Like the smaller models, the KX033-4 includes two auxiliary hydraulic circuits and a box drain. Auxiliary hydraulic circuits are adjustable up to 15.8 gallons per minute.
Kubota KX033-4 Auger Unit Accessories
For the KX033-4, Blue Diamond’s Auger “EX2” Extreme Duty Series 2 drive is still a good choice. The “EX2″ has a 2” hex to accept the most common rods, supports flow rates of 12-16 gallons per minute, and weighs only 120 pounds.

You may consider upgrading to the HB210 hydraulic breaker with the KX033-4 due to the heavier weight of the mini excavators. The HB210 is designed for 6,100- and 9,900-pound mini excavators and weighs about 460 pounds.
Kubota KX040-4 Mini Excavator
The KX040-4 is where we see our first big increase in engine power, going up to 40.4bhp. The cab version has an operating weight of nearly 9,500 pounds.
Like the smaller models of Kubota mini excavators, the KX040-4 has two auxiliary hydraulic circuits and a box drain line. However, an additional feature of the KX040-4 is that the operator can program up to five preset auxiliary oil flows into the computer’s memory for use with specific attachments. Maximum hydraulic flow is 17 gallons per minute.
Similar to Kubota’s other mini excavator models, the KX040-4 comes standard with a hydraulic box drain line.

Like the hydraulic systems on the smaller Kubota mini excavators, the KX057-5 has two auxiliary hydraulic systems, with a maximum flow rate of 19.8 gallons per minute. The flow rate of both systems can be adjusted in the cab and configured in the excavator’s memory for use with specific attachments. Also, the box drain line is electrically actuated and can be selected with a switch in the cab.

Kubota KX080-4 Mini Excavator
The operating weight of the KX080-4 increases significantly to approximately 18,600 lbs. It is powered by a 63-horsepower four-cylinder diesel engine.

Due to the higher flow capability, the KX080-4 can be used with Blue Diamond’s “EX4-HF” model of the Extreme Duty Series 2 auger system. The “HF” stands for high flow and the drive of the auger should be used in a flow range between 21 and 26 gallons per minute.
