Based in Milford, Massachusetts Consigli Construction is increasing its presence south of the Mason-Dixon line.
The contractor announced this month that it will expand operations in RaleighNorth Carolina, under the leadership of two newly incorporated executives from other construction companies.
The company said it will grow and develop its presence in the region’s academic, life sciences, healthcare, office and residential/mixed-use markets.
Chief Operating Officer John Blakey will oversee business operations in North Carolina. He joins Consigli after nearly 30 years of construction experience, most of it with Lendlease, according to his LinkedIn profile. Blakey most recently served as senior vice president of construction for the US Department of Defense for the Australian-based contractor.
Director of Project Development Michael Benson’s background includes stints at both Turner and Gilbane as a project manager or project executive, according to his LinkedIn profile. He has worked in the healthcare, life sciences and data center markets in Raleigh, according to the release. In his current role, he will lead business development, estimating and pre-construction efforts in the region.
Consigli has offices in New England and New York and one in the Caribbean.
The presence of the contractor in the state could indicate a trend. Earlier this month, Maryland-based Harkins Construction announced that it had opened one new office in Durham to help with the expansion of the $275 million of work it had in the region.
In 2020, The population of North Carolina had grown 9.5% compared to a decade earlier, the sixth largest increase in the United States, making it the 15th fastest growing state in the country, according to the US Census.
