Robert “Bob” Earle Nelson, 67, of Wall Township, NJ, died unexpectedly on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, NJ. Bob was born March 22, 1956 to Robert Ward Nelson and Betty Jean Nelson (predeceased) in Neptune, NJ.

Surviving are her devoted sons and their spouses Robert John “RJ” (Ebony) Nelson of Howell and Zachary Robert (Molly) Nelson of Asbury Park; girlfriend Lori Strumolo and children Alyssa Strumolo and wife Michelle Christensen, Justin Strumolo and Joe Strumolo; and sister Penny Hamilton.

Bob owned and operated his own excavation company called Nelson Excavating and was a long time subcontractor for Lantier Construction, Moorestown, NJ. He worked with Doug Lantier and Benny Nunez for over 40 years, as well as working alongside his sons, RJ and Zach. Known as the best backhoe operator by all his co-workers, Bob made the entire team’s job easy. He was a regular member of the NRA (National Rifle Association) and a regular attendee at Jersey Shore Calvary Chapel in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ.

Bob lived most of his life in the home he proudly designed and built in Wall Township. He loved restoring classic cars, a hobby he inherited from his father. A committed father, Bob coached nearly every athletic team his sons played on, and Nelson Excavating was a proud sponsor. Bob enjoyed spending time with Lori and their blended family, and would like to be found in Bermuda, Aruba, or floating in his pool after mowing the lawn.

Bob will be missed by his family, friends, co-workers and neighbors.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, followed by a service at 7:30 PM at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 in New Bedford . Rd., Wall, New Jersey. Private committal will be at the convenience of his family.
