“This project represents an opportunity for the Reno community and a major upgrade to the passenger experience for the traveling public.”

—Doug Clough, Project Executive, Owner

Two concourses will replace existing structures at Reno-Tahoe International Airport by the end of the decade.

The joint venture project began preconstruction in 2023. Concourse B should be completed in mid-2027 and Concourse C in fall 2029, says Duane Boreham, group president of aviation for Q&D Construction. The original lobbies will be demolished after each new lobbie is completed, adds Doug Clough, Holder’s project executive.

“The many improvements the airport is making will provide greater efficiency for both business and leisure travellers,” says Boreham.

Concrete, steel, metal panel or glass outer skin and various interior finishes are the prominent materials to be used, says Clough. He adds that the architect, Gensler/Mead & Hunt, has focused the design on a combination of local landscapes and contemporary amenities.

At the peak of construction, the joint venture will have more than 300 workers in both halls. “A project of this magnitude will provide a significant opportunity for our local subcontractors and suppliers. All of this will ultimately go to other construction support businesses, providing more opportunities for our community,” says Boreham.

He adds that the main challenge for the team will be to minimize the impact on airport operations during construction, while maintaining productivity.

Clough says, “This project represents an opportunity for the Reno community and a major upgrade to the passenger experience for the traveling public.”

Daren Griffin, president/CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, says the concourses continue the $1 million MoreRNO infrastructure program. “[It’s] not just to add new structures and upgrades to the airport. This program is a commitment to a more connected, comfortable and forward-looking future for our community.”
