Dive brief:

  • Iceland, New York-based Forte Construction Corp., along with its sister company BR Construction, has completed the renovation of its new headquarters in Iceland after operating out of Holbrook, New York, for the past 45 years, according to a company press release.
  • The general contractor purchased the existing 30,000-square-foot, three-story building in 2021 and made significant improvements over the past two years, including a complete interior renovation and exterior improvements.
  • Forte Construction occupies the first two floors of the building, which can accommodate its 300 employees, while retaining ownership of Holbrook’s logistics and warehousing facilities, according to the release.

Diving knowledge:

Construction in New York City metropolitan area is experiencing a Increase in infrastructure projectsdriven by urban development, sustainability initiatives and transport improvements.

Which presents a significant opportunity for companies across the region to secure major contracts in the sector, according to several panelists during a New York Build Expo session last month.

Forte Construction’s new headquarters aligns with these trends, positioning the company to take advantage of emerging opportunities and remain competitive in the market, according to the release.

“Our teams lead some of the most vital construction projects in New York City and the Long Island region—from building new schools to sustainability efforts to combat climate change to increasing accessibility of the Americans with Disabilities Act at Penn Station and throughout the Metropolitan Transportation Authority system,” said Jeffery Cardillo, vice president of Forte Construction. “A special sense of pride comes from working on facilities that our own company will use every day.”

Over the past two years, the contractor executed substantial upgrades to its new space. The first floor now has a large reception area adjacent to five offices. Meanwhile, the second floor incorporates 15 offices furnished with standing desks, ergonomic chairs and other state-of-the-art elements.

The interior renovation, spearheaded by 10 subcontractors, included updated conference rooms with integrated iPads, multiple kitchens, environmentally friendly waterless urinals and a renovated elevator. Those crews also installed precast panels around the building’s columns and upgraded the windows with an aluminum casement design, according to the release.

Forte Construction partners with key government agencies such as the MTA, Long Island Rail Road, New York City Housing Authority, New York City Transit Authority and New York State Dormitory Authority. The general contractor will also continue to maintain offices in Manhattan and Queens, New York, according to the company.
