Award: Arizona Highway Project
Value: 396 million dollars
Location: Between Interstate 10 and Maricopa, Arizona
Customer: Arizona DOT

Sundt Construction, a general contractor based in Tempe, Arizona, was named the highest contractor for the $396 million State Route 347 improvement project in Arizona, according to an announcement from the state DOT.

The project will improve a 15-mile stretch of State Route 347 between Interstate 10 and the city of Maricopa, Arizona, according to the news release. The stretch runs through Maricopa and Pinal counties, primarily within the Gila River Indian Community.

Planned improvements include:

  • Build one lane in each direction along SR 347 from I-10 to the city of Maricopa.
  • Rehabilitation of the existing sidewalk along this same 15-mile stretch of roadway.
  • Construction of new grade-separated interchanges at Riggs Road and Mammoth Way.
  • Add turn lanes and other intersection improvements at Casa Blanca Road and Maricopa Road.

The aim of the project is to help reduce congestion and improve safety and traffic on the road.

Sundt was selected as the highest-ranking contractor after a review process by the project team, according to the release. Negotiations for the pre-construction contract are expected to be completed in February. This process, according to the press release, will allow Sundt’s construction team to add input to the design of the improvements.

The last few months have been busy for the contractor. On October 1, the company announced that Cade Rowley, its former president and chief operating officer, would assume the position of president and CEO. On the building side, the builder was selected alongside Dallas-based Jacobs for a $600 million Arizona highway project. And in November, a team of Sundt, Jacobs and HDR based in Omaha, Nebraska completed a $597 million California wastewater project.
