As part of the Central Tri-State Tollway (Interstate 294) project, the Illinois Tollway reconstructed one of the most challenging intersections in its system: Interstate 294 above the intersection of 87th Street and Roberts Road at the convergence of three communities: Hickory Hills, Justice and Bridgeview.

The project included the construction of two new bridge structures that were large enough to span both highways and the intersection below.

The two bridges, one carrying northbound traffic and one carrying southbound vehicles, replaced two single-span bridges on the north side and a partial two-span, three-span and fracture-critical partial bridge on the side south

The new northbound structure is a two-span bridge with each span measuring 274 feet. The new southbound structure consists of a three-span bridge with a 328-foot main span that crosses the intersection.
Additional work included the construction of noise walls and retaining walls, utility work, as well as drainage and lighting improvements.
