GMI Construction Group is set to build a 37,000 sq m industrial center in the West Midlands.
The Birmingham-based firm has been awarded a contract to deliver the £32.9m Urban 8 Logistics Park in the city’s King’s Norton district.
Investor Tristan Capital Partners, developer Canmoor and regeneration specialist St Francis Group are creating the warehouse and logistics facility on a derelict site.
The hub will feature units ranging from 2,300 square meters to 6,500 square meters, all designed to achieve BREAAM Excellent ratings.
Sustainability features include LED lighting, solar power, electric vehicle charging and energy-saving infrastructure.
The isolated units will have composite metal cladding in gray and silver finishes, with glass incorporated in the entrances and office spaces.
Located off Eckersall Road, the 12-acre site near the A441 and A38 was previously used by Pilkington Automotive and GKN Aerospace.
Birmingham City Council granted full planning permission for the logistics scheme in 2021 and the site was cleared in preparation.
GMI Midlands managing director Gareth Jones said: “We are delighted to have been appointed as the main contractor for this high-profile scheme, which will support investment and create jobs by providing logistics and space of manufacturing so necessary”.
The development is due to be completed by the end of next year.
