With relentless increase in population and traffic in the region, the Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) has approved a five -year construction plan of $ 4.2 million, the largest in the agency’s history.

The CFX Council unanimously adopted the work plan of five years 2026-2030 on June 12 in an ambitious strategy to expand and improve the regional transport network of the Agency that connects Brevard, Lake, Orange, osceola and Seminole, according to a CFX press release. The Plan includes four new expressions, continued investments on existing roads, and the adoption of technology to increase security, incident response and help predictive maintenance of roads.

The three largest categories in the plan include $ 2.95 billion in expansion projects, $ 410 million in system improvements and $ 338 million in exchange projects.

“It cost us more than 50 years to reach 125 kilometers for our central system,” says Michelle Maikisch, executive director of CFX. “We now have more than 55 kilometers at some development stage, with approximately 20 kilometers active [and pending] Construction. “”

The plan includes the construction of four new hallways: the state route 516 Lake/Orange Expressway, Mr 538 Poinciana Parkway Extension, the phases Mr 534, II and III and Mr 414 Expressway Extension. Maikisch says officials expect to break the ground next year to Poinciana Parkway Extension, which will connect with other works managed by the Florida Department of Transport.

The program SR 534 will add 15 miles and will cost about $ 2.1 billion, adds. It will connect to the east from Orlando Airport to serve the main residential developments. A section, which can be purchased under design construction, is in design hoping to go out to the tender next year.

Maikisch states that the region, currently at 4.5 million residents, hopes to see 6 million in 2030.

CFX and Fdot were associated with the construction of Wekiva Parkway 25 miles of $ 1.6 million (SR 429) that connects to Intersate 4 and Sr 417, completing the belt around central Florida. This project was completed last year but “WAlready plan improvements to Wekiva capacity, “point.” We usually plan these capacity improvements for 20 years. Now we have to do them in five or six years. “

The construction will also incorporate wildlife corridors, connectivity of trails and other ways to mitigate environmental impacts and improve the community.

Technology and traffic

CFX last year launched a Pilot project of $ 13.6 million As part of The first segment of the three -year state road of three segments of $ 650 million 516 of the lake/orange To advance in the load technology of dynamic and wireless vehicles and test their scalability. The agency also did Last year’s improvements and improvements to the wrong path detection located on the ramps of and from Mr 408, SR 417 and Sr 528 last year, according to their website.

Maikisch adds that CFX maintenance employees have begun using cameras in their maintenance vehicles, taking photos every 30 seconds to capture damage or wear in assets such as guards, lane stripes and deflators. In addition, if a handrail is hit, an alert is sent to the maintenance crews.

CFX has also recently launched a Trooper Desk program in collaboration with Florida Highway Patrol. If a motorcyclist has an incident, officials can help them submit a report on the phone instead of sometimes waiting for a state soldier. However, it has been a challenge to relieve people ‘concerns about data privacy, he says.
