Lori Chavez-Deremer was confirmed by the Senate of the United States as Secretary of the Trump Administration of March 10, in a 67-32 vote that saw 17 Democrats support him and three Republicans voted against his confirmation.

The ex -ongressive and mayor of a city in Oregon has reproached a positive reaction from both business groups and construction industry work. Both parties cited different reasons for celebrating the moderate Republican that will now be directed by the United States Department of Labor, a great federal bureaucracy that includes the administration of occupational health and safety and the salary division and early.

“The ABC is hoping that we can find common ground …”, said Kristen Swearingen, associate builders and vice president of the contractors, legislative and political matters in a statement. “All North -Americans, Noi and Union, disregard a work secretary and leaders will hurt the conditions for all job creators and creators to choose how to achieve their career dreams and prosper in a safe and healthy environment.

ABC’s statement cited Swearingen, who said he intends to keep Chavez-Deremer to his commitments to the end of February to protect all workers and to support the laws of law at work and the secret elections on voting. ABC, who mostly represents non -union contractors, also said that he still remains “vehemently opposed to the protection of the right to organize the law and all its components.”

Chavez Deremer previously supported the Pro law in Congress, but said in his confirmation audience in front of a United States Senate Committee that is now opposed to her.

The General Associated Contractors of America, who represent both construction contractors and union companies, said that they support Dermer, but they expect to work with the new Department of Labor to change federal work rules.

“We want to ensure that the Department takes measures to ensure that all construction workers have equal opportunities to compete for federal construction works.” Brian Turmail, Vice President, Public Affairs and Labor Force of the AGC, said in reference to a recent court ruling and administration announcing, terminating the requirements of the Biden Administration for the project’s labor agreements in federal projects worth $ 35 million or more. Turmail added that AGC hopes to collaborate with the Trump Administration Department of Labor to address the mental and physical security threats in the industry, and that the department can help Agg to expand its roads to the construction industry.

Next to the labor union, the unions of the building of North America-the group of umbrellas that represents the interests of 14 national and international unions and more than 330 provincial, state and premises of buildings and constructions-were effective in praise of the confirmation of Chavez-Deremer.

“Nabtu applauds the confirmation of Lori Chavez-Deremer as the next U.S. Secretary of Labor,” said Nabtu President Sean McGARVEY in a statement. “ As a proud daughter of a team, he understands first -hand the vital role of the unions and working families who play in the construction of a stronger and more prosperous America. Its bipartisan leadership and its firm commitment to the development of labor force, the prevailing salary and the extension of the middle class access and that their races make an exceptional option for this role. ”

The McGARVEY Declaration said that a strong leadership in the Labor Department is essential to safeguard workers’ rights, promote fair wages and secure safe jobs in all industries, and that “Secretary Chavez-Demer has constantly supported the building’s shops and our registered Golden Learning Model.”

A remarkable critic has been the former leader of the majority of the Senate, Mitch McConnell, of Kentucky, who did not vote not along with his fellow republican senators Rand Paul (Ky.) And Ted Budd (NC). After criticizing the pro-union policies of the Biden Administration, such as requires plas, and criticizing Chavez Deremer’s support for the Pro Law, McConnell said, in a statement, “the Secretary Chavez-Demerremer will have a critical opportunity to put the interests of working families ahead of the great heads of work, empowering all American workers to join their union workers in their terms.

Chávez-Deremer becomes the 30th Labor Secretary in the History of the United States. The most confirmed candidate to celebrate the role was the former mayor of Boston and the Enr journalist, Martin Walsh, who left the Biden administration in March 2023.
