Taylor Wimpey chief executive Jennie Daly is one of 14 business leaders appointed to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s new Business Council.

The council’s role is to “support the delivery of the Prime Minister’s priority to grow the economy and make the UK the best place to do business,” the Prime Minister’s Office announced.

The council will discuss ways to boost investment, innovation and access to skills and talent.

Commenting on his appointment, Daly said: “I share the Business Council’s ambition to harness the power of the private sector to stimulate economic development and prosperity and make our cities and towns across the country better places to live and work.”

In March, Taylor Wimpey posted a 22% rise in pre-tax profit but warned that completions would fall this year due to the impact of higher mortgage rates. However, Daly said trade was showing signs of improvement compared to the last quarter of 2022.

In total, the council’s business leaders employ more than 300,000 people across the UK.
