Leading sports and entertainment contractor Barton Malow has been selected to build a $198 million stadium for Detroit-based soccer club Detroit City FC, which is expected to double the club’s matchday capacity.
In a press release issued last week, Detroit City FC said its new home, AlumniFi Field, will serve as a “true community gathering place” that will unite the surrounding Corktown and Mexicantown neighborhoods. southwest of Detroit. AArchitect HOK is responsible for the design of the stadium.
The team’s current home is the 7,200-capacity Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck.

The club added that Barton Malow was right for the job because of the contractor’s experience in “integrated construction delivery”. reflected in its work on neighboring Little Ceasars Arena, completed in 2017. The contractor also serves as construction manager for the ongoing Jacksonville Jaguars Stadium of the Future project in a joint venture with AECOM Hunt.

Site preparation for the stadium, which is expected to have a capacity of 15,000, began in December with the demolition of an abandoned hospital. According to the club, the project also includes an adjacent 421-space parking deck and about 16,000 square feet of retail space and 76 apartment units.
Club officials said they are aiming to have the stadium ready for the club’s 2027 football season.
