ENR’s regional editors have selected BKF as the magazine’s 2026 California Design Firm of the Year for the West Region.
Oakland, California-based BKF is transitioning from a traditional regional civil firm to a scaled platform with acquisition-driven growth. The company reported $217 million in revenue for California and Hawaii by 2025.
An important step in achieving this was the strategic merger with MNS Engineers, which expanded its footprint to 21 offices and nearly 800 professionals in the western US. BKF also recently acquired Lotus Water, a consultancy specializing in water resources and climate resilience. The two strategic moves have dramatically expanded the company’s transportation and water service offerings while preserving regional expertise and customer relationships.
BKF remains involved in other sectors such as governance, planning and land development. Complementing these successes, BKF invested heavily in system modernization, including the enterprise implementation of Deltek Vantagepoint.
