Living Building PAE

Lara Swimmer

The PAE Living Building in Portland, Oregon is one of the company’s prominent examples of the company’s commitment to sustainable projects.

ENR Regional Editors have selected PAE Consulting Engineers as the 2026 Northwest Design Firm of the Year for the magazine’s West Region.

The Portland, Ore.-based company’s West Coast revenue reached nearly $70 million by 2025, with its Pacific Northwest efforts accounting for two-thirds of that bounty. In fact, PAE’s last year’s reports showed that the company achieved its highest bookings month in the company’s history, despite strong financial headwinds in the industry.

The company has focused on building performance, decarbonization and system integration. PAE is a signatory to the MEP 2040 Challenge, issued by the Carbon Leadership Forum, and has recently deployed an internal embedded carbon tool that enables project teams to quantify and reduce lifetime carbon. In addition, internal R&D grants and pilot programs fueled emerging strategies, exploring grid-interactive buildings and thermal energy storage.

Featured projects include the Bush School Upper School and the UW Foster School of Business Founder’s Hall. PAE also contributed to marquee projects such as the Seattle Aquarium Ocean Pavilion and the main terminal expansion at Portland International Airport.

You can read more about PAE Consulting Engineers in the June 22 issue of ENR West. The issue will also feature regional Top Design Firm rankings.
