Improved a problematic exchange in Glastonbury, Con.

The plans ask for the roundabout to help take off the complex New London Turnpike intersection and ramps south of Route 17 near Douglas Road. The current output ramp to Turnpike and Oak Street’s proximity gives rise to a five -corner intersection that has long raised operating and safety problems as traffic volumes have increased. As part of the project, two aging bridge structures will be eliminated along with the Part of Route 17 Outside the Route.

CTDOT has selected Terryville, based on Conn. Richards Corp. As a project contractor, with STV Inc., he took the opportunity to provide construction and engineering services.

According to a 2022 Scoping CTDOT study, the exchange bridge that carried the North -American Route Route on a structure of the southern exit ramp, which covered New London Turnpike, was “functionally obsolete because the existing minimum vertical authorization is lower than the current CTDOT design criteria for an existing bridge on a motorway.”

The roof of the bridge was also classified in poor condition, with a deterioration of 30%, large map cracked areas and empty concrete at the bottom of the roof. Fucking cracks and peeled paint areas were also found.

Following the removal of the structure of the bridge and departure ramp, a new road will be built for route 17 in a north direction, with the new roundabout incorporated into the new traffic pattern. The roundabout will have a 20 -foot sealed asphalt apron badge along with additional pedestrian safety elements integrated into the design. The roundabout will also support the pedestrian improvements planned in the area.

Other facets of the project include 400 feet of extension of lane along Oak Street and the replacement of all traffic signs in the project area with new implantation sticks that use video detection systems and radar.
